Repaving of Highway 29 North of Napa is in Full Throttle

Napa Valley’s main drag is receiving a pavement overhaul.

Caltrans is amid its months-long effort to repave 15 miles of Highway 29 from north Napa to south of St. Helena. Work is done at night. Therefore, drivers can expect delays.

But daytime drivers see plenty of evidence of the $18.7 million project. Traffic might slow in areas that have uneven pavement and slightly shifting lanes. Bulldozers and other big equipment are parked along the highway in ever-shifting work zones.

For most Highway 29 drivers, the construction work should merely be a bump in the road to a road without bumps.

“It will be nice and smooth and nicely paved,” Caltrans spokesman Vince Jacala said. “It hasn’t been that way in a while.”
